Obituary for Dolores Lucas

Dolores Lucas (née Dyer), age 84, of Tampa, entered into heaven on February 10, 2019. She was preceded in death in 2012 by her cherished husband of 55 years, Rev. Norman E. Lucas. She was the beloved mother of Peter & Terri Lucas of Lutz, Daniel & Christine Lucas of Tallahassee, and Judge Matthew & Alexis Lucas of Tampa; beloved grandmother of Lynda, Philip, Jonathan, Virginia, Catherine, James, and William; beloved sister of Charles K. Dyer II who preceded her in death in 1964.
Mrs. Lucas, a 1955 graduate of Wittenberg College, was skilled in both letters and science. She taught for the English departments of Bowling Green State University, Defiance College, and the University of Tampa. In 1969, she wrote Emily Dickinson and Riddle, demonstrating the character and mystique of Dickinson’s poetry as closely tied to the literary riddle form. She was also a medical technologist, specializing in hematology, having worked at several hospitals in Tampa and becoming a licensed clinical lab supervisor. In 1996, she retired as general supervisor at Damon Clinical Laboratories in Tampa.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, February 13 at noon at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 501 S. Dale Mabry Hwy. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Florida Orchestra.
